About this project

A writing-practice concept, in the open.

Draftstead — Big ideas. Smaller writing steps. — is a planned step-by-step writing practice web app for grades 6-8. The idea is simple: big writing tasks become manageable when they are broken into small, explicit moves, with feedback limited to the task at hand.

Why this exists

Draftstead started at one kitchen table. The founder's daughter, a strong reader with plenty to say, would stall for an hour on a one-paragraph assignment. Not for lack of ideas, but because “write an essay” felt like forty rules at once. The first lessons were written for her. They are now being rewritten, reviewed, and extended so other families can use them.

Fictional data

Every example of student writing and every parent dashboard figure on this site is fictional and labeled as such. Nothing here represents a real customer, a measured result, or an endorsement.
